Worcester Telegram & Gazette – – Incoming student, 17, accused of rape during Nichols orientation

DUDLEY —  A 17-year-old has been charged with raping a fellow incoming freshman during an overnight orientation at Nichols College. David Ceballos, 10 Meade St., Apt. B, Milford, was arraigned yesterday in Dudley District Court on charges of rape and indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older. Judge Paul L. McGill ordered Mr. Ceballos released on personal recognizance. The judge ordered him to stay away from the alleged victim and the college, and report to probation once a week. Mr. Ceballos will return to court on July 21. A prosecutor filed a motion to revoke Mr. Ceballos’ bail because of a pending case in Uxbridge District Court, but the judge denied it. Police said Sgt. Paul Ceppetelli and Officer Marek Karlowicz went to the school just before 5 a.m. yesterday. A public-safety officer at the school told the sergeant an 18-year-old woman said she had been sexually assaulted. The woman said Mr. Ceballos forcibly had sex with her against her will, police said She was taken by Dudley EMS to Harrington Hospital in Southbridge for minor injuries, authorities said. The school’s public safety unit had collected four written witness accounts consistent with the alleged victim’s statement, Sgt. Ceppetelli said. Sgt. Pamela Daniels, the Police Department’s sexual assault investigator, went to the hospital and then told Sgt. Ceppetelli to arrest Mr. Ceballos based on probable cause. Sgt. Ceppetelli went to Mr. Ceballos’ room. There was no answer so a school official unlocked the door, police said. According to police, Mr. Ceballos was read his rights and asked if he had sex with anyone Monday night. He said no. After the sergeant explained the rape allegation, Mr. Ceballos allegedly said he had consensual sex with the woman. Mr. Ceballos added that others were in the room, police said.
