Winter Solstice Celebrated in Two Harbors

Posted at: 12/21/2011 10:46 PM By: Renee Passal Residents in Two Harbors held a celebration of the winter solstice on Wednesday night. The Celestial Celebrations put on the event at the Split Rock Lighthouse. A lantern launch helped raise money for the Two Harbors Food Shelf. Afterward, folks headed down to a large bonfire on the shores of Lake Superior. Drumming, singing, and a ceremony were part of the night. “We’re out here to honor nature actually on this longest night. And starting tomorrow, the day will get incrementally, a little bit longer,” said Ellen Hufschmidt of Two Harbors. The solstice celebration has been a fixture in town for over 10 years.
