STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team led 14-7 after the first quarter against UW-Oshkosh but were outscored by 21 points in the next three quarters as the Titans defeated the Pointers 38-24 on senior and parents day at Goerke Park on Saturday afternoon.The Pointers took an early 7-0 advantage on a Keith Ingram 10-yard touchdown run with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter, his first of the year.UWO bounced back as junior Nate Wara connected with Garrie Fox on a 36-yard pass completion and after the PAT, the game was back to even at seven apiece. Colton Zimmerman gave the Pointers excellent field position on the ensuing drive after he returned the kickoff 62 yards to the UWO 30-yardline. Freshman Ben Wetzel capped off the drive seven plays later on a score from two yards out for his second touchdown of the season and a 14-7 lead for Point.After both teams exchanged possessions to end the first quarter and start the second, Brandon Matznick pinned the Titans on their three yard line on a 35-yard punt. On the first play of the drive, Justin Budiac slipped through a hole and outran the Pointers defense on his way to a 97-yard touchdown. UWSP kept the lead 14-13 after UWO missed the PAT.Budiac then went on to score on two consecutive drives for the Titans in just under one minute, one to close out the second quarter and one to begin the third quarter. With the two scores, a two-point conversion and a field goal later in the third period, UWO took a 31-14 lead entering the fourth quarter. Jered Fohrman gave the Pointers their first second half score by connecting on a 35-yard field goal cutting the lead to 31-17 in favor of the Titans. With his make, the senior moved into sole possession of second place in school history for most field goals in a career with 24.Both teams traded touchdown in the quarter as senior Klink Hischke scored on a 22-yard pass from Mitch Beau for the final score of the game, 38-24 in favor of Oshkosh.Seniors Joe Mleziva and Curtis Krump led the Pointers with 15 total tackles while Krump had one tackle for loss and Mleziva intercepted and broke up one pass. Justin Scray also recorded 14 tackles, one half for loss in his final home game.Beau completed 19 of 40 passes on the day for 189 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.The sophomore also led the team on the ground with 67 yards on 15 carries. Mike Mullins led all receivers with six catches and tallied 69 yards with a long of 18.Wara threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 54 yards. Budiac gained 149 yards on 14 carries totaling three touchdowns on the day, two rushing and one receiving. Fox racked up a game-high 92 yards on four catches.UWO gained 684 yards of total offense including 348 rushing on 56 attempts compared to the Pointers 313 yards of total offense. The Titans converted eight of their 13 third-down attempts while Point was successful on four of 12.UW-Stevens Point (4-5, 2-4 WIAC) returns to action for its final game of the season next weekend as they travel to UW-Platteville to take on the Pioneers.
