PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Friday marks the 92nd celebration of Veterans Day in the United States. Various offices and businesses in the state of Rhode Island will be closed in observance of the holiday. Read more: Observing Veterans Day All state and city offices in Providence will be closed for the holiday, which includes municipal and federal offices. There will also be no mail service on Friday as all U.S. Postal services will be closed for the day; banks will also not be open. The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) has made it clear it will run on a Sunday/Holiday service schedule for Friday. RIPTA offices will not be staffed on the holiday and all of its Flex Services will not run with the exception of Route 210 (Kingston Flex) which will run the regular weekend schedule. In addition, public schools and some private schools and libraries also close their doors to honor all military veterans. President Woodrow Wilson marked the very first day of remembrance for Veterans on November 11, 1919.
