Urban Meyer: I'd be sad to see Texas A&M leave the Big 12

ESPN analyst and former University of Florida football coach Urban Meyer participatedin a national teleconference Thursday afternoon. Meyer, who resigned from Florida in December, won two national championships with the Gators. Here are some of Meyer’s responses to local topics, transcribed by Oklahomabeing ranked No. 1:”After visiting with Landry Jones, the quality of kidand quality of leader he is, I walked away from that campus really impressed.I’ve always had a great relationship with coach (Bob) Stoops. I coached againsthim in the big game one time. After watching their guys work out that’s a greatlooking football team. I think their schedule is on their side. So many thingscan happen. But if they stay healthy I think they’ll have a great year.”On Texas A&M possibly leaving for the SEC:”I’m a traditionalist. To see Texas A&M reallyleave Texas and go to the SEC — I know the media has talked about televisioncontracts and everything else — but it’s hard for me after watching Texas playTexas A&M the past 40 years, to see those rivalries disintegrate. I’m justnot sure if that’s great for college football, taking away all the moneyissues. I’m sad to see that happen.”On the Big 12 being able to survive without A&M:”If Texas A&M leaves the Big 12 the survival ofthat conference will be in question.”
