Stuttering Salts hope blip is only minor (From Bradford Telegraph and Argus)

Stuttering Salts hope blip is only minor 3:50pm Monday 2nd April 2012 in Sport By Philip Rhodes John Butcher, who scored both consolation goals for Bronte Wanderers Salts who stuttered in the final stages of their West Riding County Amateur League Division One campaign last season, will be hoping that their 3-1 defeat last Saturday at Ventus Yeadon Celtic was just a blip in their bid to regain their Premier Division spot that they lost 15 seasons ago. Kyle Shah, Jamie Scott and Mathew Hannan were on target for the Yeadon side, with Joe Pleasance netting a consolation for Salts. Promotion rivals Overthorpe SC, who were ahead of Salts in second place on goal difference, moved three points clear after a Kieran Bonner goal at second-from-bottom Storthes Hall Reserves gave them a 1-0 success. Leaders Lepton Highlanders moved to within two points of promotion into the top flight after goals from Tom Mitchell, Ashley Flynn. Kitson Gayle, Dave Walker and Paul Pike gave them a 5-2 win at Bronte Wanderers, for whom John Butcher netted both replies. Hunsworth’s eight-game unbeaten run that has moved them into the top half of the table was brought to an end when they went down 2-0 as Arron Smithson and an own goal gave Tingley Athletic victory.. Tyersal consolidated their second place in the Premier Division with a 5-1 success at Lower Hopton, with two goals each from Andrew Bailey and Chris McMahon and one from Alan Morley junior, with Mick Hall netting for Hopton. Tyersal’s position was strengthened by leaders Ovenden West Riding and Bay Athletic. Ovenden, with goals from Darren Randle, Andy Gregory and Robbie Graham, beat third-placed Golcar United 3-0, and fourth-placed Kirkburton, who, with goals from Keiran Ryan and Paul Wright, led Bay 2-0 at the interval before losing 3-2 after the champions for the last four seasons hit back with Danny Ryan, Nathan James, and Mat Mulvihill goals. Wibsey slipped to bottom after losing 4-2 at home to Storthes Hall, with Alex Slack netting three for the Huddersfield side while Chris Wood and Michael Walton scored for Wibsey. Campion’s euphoria at winning the Bradford & District FA Cup earlier in the week did them no favours as Clifton Firth and Jamie Miller scored to give their hosts Hall Green United a 2-0 win. Albion Sports and Campion Reserves, who are already guaranteed a top two finish in Division Two. can now concentrate on the champions’ spot. Albion, who lead the way, dropped two valuable points when they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Ovenden West Riding Reserves, Arron Basi netting both Albion’s efforts, while Martin Woodhouse and Martin Coldwell hit the target for the Halifax outfit. Campion Reserves edged out their visitors Huddersfield YMCA with a 3-0 victory, Paul Noble netting twice from the penalty spot with Maldini Nyandoro adding the third. Tyersal Reserves, who were the early pacesetters in the division, ended their season with a 9-2 setback at Steeton Reserves. Adam Spencer’s hat-trick added to doubles from Ben McCormack and William Lee and one apiece by Steve Lee and Andrew Foster, while Antony Busfield and Dave Scott netted Tyersal’s consolations.
