Well it’s a sensational story that we don’t see every day in pro sports. And the fact he’s doing it on the biggest stage in New York makes it so compelling. Two weeks ago, Lin was in danger of being cut for the third time in the past two seasons when all of a sudden the Knicks had several key injuries. Coach Mike Dantoni was down to his final point guard. That point guard’s name was Jeremy Lin. And, seven games later, he has captured the Big Apple and could probably leap tall buildings in a single bound if he really tried. But the reason the story is so good is this 23-year-old Harvard grad with a degree in economics saw his opportunity and made it happen. He could have quit basketball long ago but he never stopped trying. And when his chance came along he answered the call. Actually, he nuked the call. The NY Knicks have not won an NBA title since the early 70s. And as you know, patience is not a virtue you find in New York sports fans. So, when they see this kid leading their team they immediately begin planning the parade down the Canyon of Heroes. The truth is Jeremy Lin will not win an NBA title for New York. He can only be part of a bigger puzzle that needs to fit perfectly in order for the Knicks to simply win. But everyone is cheering for Jeremy Lin. Two weeks ago he was sleeping on his brother’s couch. Today, he’s subletting a $4,000-per month apartment. He has turned down network news interviews and even said no thanks to David Letterman. Lin has a calmness about him that makes you wonder if he realizes exactly what’s happening. Here’s a wild guess…I think he does. After all, he went to Harvard. They may not graduate a lot of basketball stars, but when it comes to brains they know what they’re doing. And so does Jeremy Lin.
