Ryan Leaf Arrested: Former Chargers QB Charged With Burglary, Drug Possession

Posted: March 31, 2012 Former San Diego Chargers quarterback Ryan Leaf is in trouble with the law again. Leaf was arrested on Friday and charged with burglary and possession of narcotics.Leaf posted a $76,000 bond at the Cascade Country Detention Center in Montana.Leaf said in a statement:“I’ve made some mistakes, and have no excuses. I am using the tools I’ve learned to move forward rather than backwards, and will be open to talking about the details in the days to come. I am confident that there will be further understanding when the facts are revealed, and feel very blessed for all of the support, especially from my friends and family.”USA Today reports that Leaf the second pick in the 1998 NFL Draft and signed a $31.25 million contract with the Chargers. In his four year NFL career, Leaf threw 14 touchdowns and 36 interceptions.Leaf has been dealing with legal problems since he was arrested in 2008 for breaking into one of his player’s homes while he was a coach at West Texas A&M in 2008. Leaf, who stole more than 1,000 pain pills during the robbery,  was charged with eight felony drug charges and was given 10 years probation.The details of Leaf’s arrest aren’t clear at the moment but it’s likely that it involved prescription pain medication. Bill Kelly, who represented Leaf during his 2008 arrest, said:“People get hooked on these things and it’s hard to get off of them. It’s just a sad, sad deal because he was doing so well.”
