By NewsCore January 18, 2012 INDIANAPOLIS — Actor Rob Lowe sparked a Twitter frenzy Wednesday with an out-of-the-blue claim that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning will retire.”Hearing my fave, #18 Peyton Manning will not return to #NFL. Wow. #Colts,” read the original tweet from the former “West Wing” star. “#Colts fans, let’s hope my info is wrong. Don’t like being wrong, but this time… I’m hoping,” he wrote in a subsequent tweet. Most thought Lowe was joking or had been misinformed but the “Parks and Recreation” actor is reportedly friends with Colts owner Jim Irsay, which seemed to lend some credibility to his claim. But Irsay later told the Indianapolis Star he did not know anything about Lowe’s tweet.Manning’s father, Archie, quickly dismissed the idea that his son’s career would be coming to an end.”Noooo…he ain’t retiring. I think he would’ve told me,” Archie Manning said in response to the rumor, according to ESPN reporter Chris Mortensen. An NFL Network reporter tweeted that he had spoken to Manning’s agent, Tom Condon, who told him he did not know of any retirement decision. There is uncertainty over the next step in the 35-year-old Manning’s career after he missed the 2011 season following a third surgery on his neck. He still must be cleared by doctors to resume playing football. The Colts, who went 2-14 in Manning’s absence, are expected to select Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with the top pick in April’s draft, possibly signaling the end of the four-time MVP’s run in Indianapolis.
