US Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain has been accused of yet another sexual scandal after a woman claimed she had a 13-year extramarital affair with the candidate. “Here we go again, I didn’t do anything wrong,” Mr Cain said after former businesswoman Ginger White told Fox 5 Atlanta that their relationship had lasted until shortly before the former pizza mogul announced his run for the White House. Ms White described how Mr Cain had bought her plane tickets so she could join him in Palm Springs, California and Atlanta, Georgia. “It was fun,” the 46-year-old Georgian said. “It was something that took me away from my sort of humdrum life at the time. And it was exciting.” Mr Cain had been flying high in the opinion polls, despite little political experience, until last month when a number of women alleged that he sexually harassed them while at the National Restaurant Association in the mid to late 1990s. The trade group paid settlements to two women who had worked there but Mr Cain denied any wrongdoing. This time the Republican hopeful was on television denying the claims even before the report went out. “I did not have an affair, and until I see and hear exactly what’s going to be, what accusations are going to be made, let’s move on,” he said. After the denial, Ms White said Mr Cain was not being truthful when he said there had been no affair. “That would be false,” she said. “What I said in the interview was true.” A later statement issued by Mr Cain’s lawyer did not specifically dismiss the allegations but suggested that the media – and the public – should not snoop into the details of consensual conduct between adults. Lin Wood said the former businessman has no obligation to “discuss these types of accusations publicly with the media and he will not do so even if his principled position is viewed unfavourably by members of the media”. Fox 5 Atlanta reported Ms White had Mr Cain’s name in her mobile phone contacts, and when its reporter sent a text message to the number, he called back.”He told us he knew ‘Ginger White’ but said he was trying to help her financially,” the television station said. Mr Cain avoided reporters and their questions when he attended a fundraising event on Monday night in the Virginia suburbs of Washington. He is scheduled to speak to students at Hillsdale College in Michigan on Wednesday, at the start of a bus tour through Ohio. Mr Cain is fighting to regain his place as a serious challenger to Mitt Romeny for the Republican nomination for next year’s presidential election after a campaign that has also included a number of gaffes. Earlier this month he struggled to answer a question on Libya, stumbling over a response for several minutes in an interview that swept across the internet.
