By THE HERALD-WHIG STAFF Landon Epperson scored 12 of his game-high 16 points in the fourth quarter to lead Payson Seymour's 61-59 West Central Conference South Division victory Friday night at Payson, Ill. Epperson's steal of an inbounds pass and basket with less than a minute to play gave the Indians the lead for good. Epperson also went 5 of 5 from the free-throw line in the fourth. Payson trailed by eight points with four minutes left. The Indians went 9 of 14 from the line in the quarter. “We started off really well, but we started turning the ball over a lot and missing a lot of easy shots,” said Payson coach Brian Rea, whose team was outscored 15-8 in the third quarter to trail 41-37. “We never quit though. We played very hard and came all the way back although it got pretty hectic at the end.” Aaron Edwards scored 14 points for the Indians (4-2) and T.J. Klitz added 12. Andrew Doyle led Unity (4-3) and Thomas Donley added 10. Monmouth-Roseville 49, Illini West 41: The visiting Chargers were outscored by 10 in the pivotal third quarter and fell to 1-3 overall, 0-3 in West Central Conference North Division play. Evan McGaughey led Illini West with 15 points, followed by Brody Gronewold with nine and Spencer Kirkenslager with eight. North Greene Tournament: Paced by Alex Sheppard's 18 points, top-seeded Brown County dominated the fourth quarter in a 48-40 win over Greenfield in the third-place game. Down by a point entering the final period, the Hornets outscored Greenfield (3-2) 15-6 for the victory. Jacob Shoopman had eight points and Justin Volk had seven for Brown County (2-3). North Greene outscored Pleasant Hill in every quarter and was a 10 of 10 at the foul line in a 58-43 victory in the fifth-place contest. Pleasant Hill's Matt Gunterman led all scorers with 17 points for the Wolves (3-3). After going to the half tied, Bunker Hill outscored Western 23-15 in the second half for a 41-33 victory in the seventh-place game. Izack Hively paced Western with 12. Monroe City Tournament: A tight game throughout, Marceline outscored Mark Twain by a single point in both the third and fourth quarters for a 52-50 win in the consolation game. Austin Hardy scored 19 points to lead Mark Twain (1-4), while Ethan Anderson finished with 16 and Garrett Jarman added 11. Canton 53, Clark County 50: Led by Nick Janney's 18 points and Brandon Berhorst who scored 12, the Tigers rallied late to stay unbeaten at 4-0. Clark County led 48-46 with three minutes remaining, but Canton battled back, and free throws by Berhorst and then Janney put Canton up three with 10 seconds left. The hosts survived as a 3-point attempt by Clark County missed at the buzzer. Chase Bevans and Kyle Kovar both reached double-digits for Clark County (2-3), with 13 and 11 points respectively. North Shelby 52, Putnam County 40: The hosts notched their first Tri-Rivers Conference win of the season as John Stoneburner led the way with 25 points, including four 3-pointers. Down 14-9 after the first quarter, North Shelby (3-2) pulled to within two points at halftime and rolled to a 32-18 scoring advantage in the second half. Kendle Smith added 10 points for North Shelby. Knox County 54, Schuyler County 40: Royce Poore had 21 points, including six of his team's 19 in the fourth quarter as the hosts rolled to a comfortable Tri-Rivers Conference win. Knox County was aided by its work at the foul line, where it held a 10-2 scoring advantage. Poore was the only player to reach double figures in scoring. Scotland County 79, Milan 58: Harley Stone and Cordie Kigar combined to score 42 points in the Tigers' TRC victory on the road. Stone scored a game-high 22 points while Kigar added 20. Drew Miller scored 12 points and Brock Bondurant added 10 for Scotland County (4-2, 2-0). — /221-3365
