Northland Christian uses big second half rally to defeat St. Michael’s – Your Houston News: Recaps

Northland Christian rallied at Cougar Field Friday night todefeat Austin St. Michael’s, 43-41, in a wild game Friday night atCougar Field in Spring. The come-from-behind keeps the Crusaders undefeated on the yearat 4-0 and they will begin TAPPS District play this Friday nightwhen they play Lutheran South. It was a great win for the Crusaders after they lost to St.Michael’s last year in Austin, but it was also a great victorybecause the Crusaders trailed 27-12 at the half before scoring 31points in the second half to pull out the win.Northland Christian second-year head coach David Nelson saidthat this game was one of the the biggest turnarounds in Cougarhistory.Going into the locker room at the half, Northland was trailing27 to 12 after St. Michael’s moved the ball up and down the fieldand the home team missed two missed extra point attempts.Nelson stated that the second half comeback started withturnovers and an interception by junior TaQuan Wilson.The team in the locker room knew they could still do it andproved it tonight, he said.Northland Cougars had 473 total yards with 305 rushing and theCoogs only punted 3 times during the night.Both teams had two fumbles, but recovered each of them and theCrusaders held the lead until the last five minutes of the game.Junior running back Justin Webster had 175 yards and fourtouchdowns on 26 carries.Junior qurterback Walker Whitehorn also had 19 carries for 63yards and sophomore Darian Simms caught six receptions totaling 118years.The Cougars will meet Lutheran South Pioneers in their firstleague game of the season, Friday September 23rd.Northland is 4-0 on the season, but most importantly will lookto go to 1-0 in the district Friday.
