His attorneys argued for leniency, calling Blagojevich “an intrinsically good, kind, and decent man.” Judge James Zagel was expected to sentence the former Illinois governor next week. WASHINGTON: Vows to stop tarmac delays Administration officials promised Wednesday to make changes before the Christmas travel season in an effort to prevent airline passengers’ suffering the nightmare of being trapped for hours on a tarmac. “We can move pretty quickly on this,” Federal Aviation Administrator Randy Babbitt said after hosting a forum on ways to prevent a repeat of Oct. 29, when hundreds were left stranded in Hartford, Conn. Twenty-eight planes, seven of them large international flights, arrived unexpectedly at Bradley International Airport during a freak snowstorm, diverted there because weather and equipment problems prevented them from landing at New York-area airports. Several flights were on the ground for more than seven hours, before they could either refuel and depart or unload their passengers. IOWA: $13G hunted in a ‘haystack’ Charity workers hunted through piles of donated clothes at an Iowa warehouse Wednesday, hoping to find $13,000 that a man says he mistakenly left in the pocket of a suit he gave to a Goodwill store in western Illinois. The 80-year-old notified Goodwill of the Heartland last week of his mistake Dana Engelbert, vice president of marketing for the charity, said the man’s wife has cancer and they had been using the money to offset her medical expenses. Goodwill workers were checking back through all clothes dropped off since the last week of October. More than 575,000 items had been donated in the past year to the Goodwill chapter, which covers southeast Iowa and western Illinois. Be the first to rate: 0 Click to rate
