Moonrise Kingdom (12A) ***

May 27 2012 by Graham Young, Sunday Mercury MOONRISE KINGDOM (12A) HHHII CAST: Bruce Willis, Frances McDormand, Harvey Keitel, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jason Schwarzman. PLOT: A young boy scout called Sam (Jared Gilman) sneaks away with a girl he fancies called Suzy (Kara Hayward). Like all good scouts he has a tent… meanwhile, his fellow young explorers are on a mission to find him. GOOD POINTS: As a film directed by Wes Anderson (Rushmore / The Darjeeling Limited) this 1906s’ adventure set in New England is quirkier than any other release this year. BAD POINTS: While the two young leads are engaging in their debut roles, the all-star cast of adults seem to be there for an off-beat celebrity love-in. The escapees are found far too early. SHOULD I SEE IT?: If you are an Anderson fan you will enjoy this. But having been shot on 16mm and blown up, the pictures are a bit fuzzy even in the crystal clear digital age. The sexual content of the young lovers’ awakening is not suitable for under 12s despite the certificate. GRAHAM YOUNG
