MLB Trade Rumors: Phillies Interested In Marlins’ Leo Núñez

Jul 19, 2011 – Like a few other top contenders, the Philadelphia Phillies seem pretty well stacked, with one exception: their bullpen. And according to Jerry Crasnick, the Phillies are interested in Florida Marlins closer Leo Núñez, who’s not a brilliant pitcher but currently ranks third in the National League with 27 saves …

Phillies have talked to Marlins about Leo Nunez. Florida is looking for young starting pitching in return. Phils have a lot of that.

Everybody has a lot of young starting pitching, somewhere. It’s a question of quality and I’m not seeing a lot of high-quality young starting pitching, unless you count Vance Worley (who the Phillies seem exceptionally unlikely to trade, considering his surprising success; he’s got the best ERA in the rotation!).

Then again, if the Phillies are willing to trade two of their best young arms — no matter how far from the majors they might be — for Núñez, that’s a deal the Marlins certainly have to consider.
