The gathering for the May Day rally and march along Broadway in downtown Los Angeles got off to a confusing start Tuesday with the corner of Olympic Boulevard and Broadway relatively quiet at 9:30 a.m. amid a visible police presence. The only people at the intersection waiting for the event were media vans. There had been indications that marchers would begin showing up well before 10 a.m., though that now isn't expected to happen until 1 p.m.   PHOTOS: May Day protest Workers waited for buses and clumped nearby, while the scent of grilled meats wafted in from a nearby taco stand. "We're pulling out," said a producer from "Inside Edition" who did not want to identify himself. "Jessica Simpson is having her baby." LAPD officers were patrolling on foot in pairs but had little to do as the workday got underway. "Maybe they’re sleeping in," said an LAPD officer as he and his partner walked the sidewalk.
