Where has this week gone?I seem to be thrown off by changes to my schedule this week, including Wednesday evening volleyball matches.Yes, dear sports fans, the postseason is upon us.We kicked things off locally on Tuesday as Hinton swept a 3-0 match from Cherokee. On Wednesday, second-ranked Gehlen Catholic began its state title quest with a 3-0 win over Siouxland Community Christian.The Lady Jays will advance in postseason play and take on Akron-Westfield next Tuesday in Le Mars. A-W defeated RSM 3-0 in Akron last night.Kingsley-Pierson also advanced with a 3-0 win over Storm Lake St. Mary’s and Remsen-Union earned a meeting with fourth-ranked Boyden-Hull after a 3-1 win over West Sioux.You can view a complete list of scores from around the state for Class 2A and Class 1A online by clicking the class.Today around the state, cross country runners are competing for state meet berths at various district and regional races. Plymouth County teams are competing at three different sites — Le Mars and WC/K-P/L-B are at Spencer, MMC/R-U is at Orange City (Unity) while Gehlen, Hinton and RSM race at Holstein (Ridge View). All races begin at 4 p.m. with the top three teams and top 10 individuals advancing to next Saturday’s state meet in Fort Dodge.We’ll have complete results and photos from all three sites in Friday’s paper.Speaking of Friday, it is the last week of the football regular season. All seven local schools are in action, including a district championship showdown between Akron-Westfield and top-ranked Gehlen Catholic in Le Mars. It should be a good game.I realize that I failed to produce my weekly rankings blog, so here’s some quick links to the various rankings.In the Associated Press rankings that we use at the Sentinel, Gehlen remains Class A’s top team while Akron-Westfield is receiving votes and Remsen-Union is ranked 10th in 8-man play.The Des Moines Register kept Gehlen at No. 2 behind Lisbon, which won 90-0 in Week 8.
