Leonard Salanitro: Unarmed, undressed, and Washington County’s inquiry undone

“Salanitro, 49, was a guest in the Aloha home of Dale and Sue Anne Fortune. I have no idea how well he knew the Fortunes . . ” Yep, Steve, that about sums it up. You’re not familiar with all the facts in this case, and presenting this just like ‘hey, this dork walks out into his friends kitchen in his underwear, and the cops gut-shoot him’, while factual, doesn’t present all the facts. Like, what about the Fortunes’ priors? What about Salinitro’s priors? What was Salinitro, an Orange, CA resident, doing in Aloha in the first place, with people he apparently didn’t know that well? I’ve never kicked my neighbor’s truck, and had the cops called to my house, and neither have you. If they did come, I certainly wouldn’t be wrestling with them in my kitchen. The Un-Fortunes are obviously plain old Aloha trailer-trash, of which there are plenty, whose lives consist of out-of-control confrontations with the other scum in their neighborhood over something stupid, usually “you smoked too much of my pot, drank too much of my booze, took more than your share of our joint Meth buy, slept with my old lady, slept with my teen age daugher” and so on. So, here’s our buddy Leonard, here for a visit to Dogpatch, uh excuse me, I mean Aloha, for who knows what purpose, sucking up the charming ambiance of the place, which includes things like late evening visits from the Police or Sheriff, resulting from his buddy Dale’s out-of-control confrontation with the neighbor, of which surely Leonard was aware. Steve, this is daily life for people like Leonard and the Fortunes. I really pity the Police, having to deal with these idiots regularly for the same old crap – domestic disturbance, public drunkneness, and whatever other public nuisance they constantly create with their chaotic and dysfunctional lives. So, every now and then, one of the inevitable and regular confrontations with the Sheriff’s Deputies spins out of control. Ooohh! Some denizen of Dogpatch get himself shot! I’m supposed to get concerned about this? My tax dollars are already paying for the constant Police “supervision” of these morons – something less than hardened criminals, but certainly not upstanding, hardworking citizens. My tax dollars paid for Leonard’s medical treatment, I am sure. And, if Leonard could build a case, I’m certain some scumbag, contingency-fee lawyer will take his case and sue the County (if they apready haven’t), and my tax dollars will pay the court costs AND the settlement, of which Leonard’s lawyer will keep at least 60%. No Steve, I’m not happy about this at all. But, I’m more concerned about how the chronic misconduct of a few idiots spirals into something that costs taxpayers at least hundreds of thousands of dollars. If I’m mad at the Sheriff’s office, it’s for shooting Leonard in the gut (a more traumatic injury) than shooting him in the leg (easier to heal from) or right between the eyes.
