Heidi Montag and her husband Spencer Pratt, the celebrity couple who starred in the reality series ‘The Hills’, have admitted they’re finally broke after years of lavish spending. The couple are reportedly living rent free at Spencer’s parent’s house in Santa Barbara.
In a new interview with The Daily Beast, the couple look back with regret on their celebrity lifestyle, admitting their relationships with friends and family are now damaged. Speaking about the money she’s burnt through, Heidi noted, “I thought I was investing in myself and my brand, like Kim (Kardashian).I thought I had that potential. My ego got too big. To think I could be someone like that when I was the most hated girl ever”. For a short period, the couple became one of the most talked about in Hollywood, with Pratt playing the villain character having taken the ‘innocent’ Heidi away from her parents. They quickly became a staple on U.S. chat shows and reality programs, but Spencer admits, “What we learned is: You can be too famous”, adding, “This isn’t a business. That was the big thing I didn’t get: Reality TV is not a career. Anyone who says, ‘Oh, you can have a career in reality’-that is a lie”.
Montag released her debut album ‘Superficial’ on the Warner Music label in January 2010, however, the record reportedly sold less than 1,000 copies in its first week of release.
