Green Bay Packers team report: Finley’s injury issues crop up again

GREEN BAY, Wis.—TE Jermichael Finley will not play against the Chiefs Thursday night because of an ankle injury. It’s unlikely he’ll miss the opener against New Orleans, but it raises the question as to whether Finley will be able to stay healthy this year. Jermichael Finley won’t play in the preseason finale, raising concerns about whether the talented TE will be ready for the season opener. (AP Photo) Two years ago, he suffered a knee injury early in the season and missed a big chunk of the year. Last year, he suffered a knee injury in Week 5 and missed the rest of the year. To reach his full potential, Finley has to be on the field 16 games this season. He’s too talented not to have a monster year if he’s healthy Notes: QB Graham Harrell seems to have a spot wrapped up behind Aaron Rodgers and Matt Flynn. The club knows it’s going to lose Flynn to free agency after this season, so it has to think about replacing him. Harrell joined the team last year, but has yet to have a full offseason or participate in coach Mike McCarthy’s quarterbacks camp. Harrell is a cool customer with an OK arm. He’s smart, but he’s still unlearning the spread offense from his days at Texas Tech and needs to keep getting reps in the West Coast. Rookie WR Tory Gurley is someone to watch on Thursday night. He has come on strong at the end of camp both as a receiver and on special teams. He has had five blocked punts in practice. It’s going to be hard to keep a sixth wide receiver, but Gurley would certainly be a candidate for the spot. More: Latest news and notes from all 32 NFL teams
