But when a storage unit’s rent goes unpaid, everything behind the door goes up for auction, and the result is a battle to win some good loot and then sell it at a profit. Matt Volkman and Tim Oros know some of that thrill since they recently started engaging in their own storage wars. Their winnings are now on display and for sale at Everything Under the Sun, a new thrift store at 47 E. Illinois Ave., just west of Broadway Street in Aurora. “Everything that you see in here is what I gambled on,” said Volkman, of Aurora, who said he learned a lot about the resale industry when he worked at Thrift and Dollar on Lake Street.Oros, of Montgomery, owns the building that also houses Mr. Wonderful Motorsports next to the thrift store. Oros also buys cars at auction. Volkman said they recently won storage items at auction from J and J Self Storage in Oswego. He added that the thrift store contains only items won at auction, and no donations. The showroom at Everything Under the Sun is filled with furniture, including items such as a Henredon bedroom set and Bassett Furniture pieces, housewares, fine China, collectibles, office and stereo equipment and more.
