Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, who will coach the Olympic team, can’t say enough about Rose. “He’s a marvelous player to coach because he’s such a sponge and such a team player,” Krzyzewski said. “That whole summer (with Team USA), he did a great job for us. I think it helped him going into the next year. He helped himself by making that commitment. Remember, he also was part of our Select (practice) teams. Derrick pays his dues. He’s an incredible athlete but an incredible guy. What a team player and pleasure to coach.” As for the rest of the 20 finalists, Blake Griffin of the Clippers and LaMarcus Aldridge of the Trail Blazers joined the 18 holdovers competing for spots on the final roster. Returning from the team that won gold in Beijing are Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Back from the reigning world champions are Rose, Kevin Durant, Tyson Chandler, Eric Gordon, Rudy Gay, Kevin Love, Lamar Odom, Chauncey Billups, Russell Westbrook and Andre Iguodala. Twitter @kcjhoop
