Junior infielder Matt Duffy has been chosen torepresent the East Division as an All-Star for the Cape Cod League,as announced by the prestigious summer college league.
The Cape Cod League is traditionally home tothe top collegiate baseball players in the offseason, and Duffy wasrecognized as one of its best, being selected to represent histeam, Orleans, as the East Division’s starting shortstop.
Duffy currently stands fifth in the leaguewith a .309 batting average, and has five doubles and a home runover 33 games in the wood-bat league. The infielder is coming offof a season at Long Beach State where he led the Dirtbags in RBIwith 31 and earned a second-team All-Big West selection at secondbase.
The Cape Cod All-Star game will be held onJuly 29, 2011, and will once again be played at Fenway Park inBoston.
Duffy’s selection marks the second year in arow that Long Beach State will have a starter in the Cape All-StarGame. Fellow 2010 All-Big West selection Drew Gagnon was named thestarting pitcher for last year’s all-star game for the premierleague.
