Colvin Shelled In Loss To Lakeland

The Phillies top pitching prospect Brody Colvin continued his season long struggles on Saturday (Aug. 20) in Lakeland.The Flying Tigers jumped on the 21 year old, scoring all their seven runs off the starter, defeating the Threshers 7-3.The youngster from Lafayette, LA saw his record fall to 2-8 on the year. Colvin worked five innings giving up ten hits, while striking-out only two batters issuing a walk.Baseball America ranked Colvin as the third top prospect in the Phillies organization behind the now departed Jarred Cosart and Jonathan Singleton. Colvin had a sensational 2010 season in Lakewood (Low A) where he made 27 appearances compiling a 3.39 ERA.Lakeland scored a single run in the first but posted five runs in the third on two singles, a walk, a triple and a homerun.Outfielder Brandon Tripp hit his fourth homer in just his 27th game as a Thresher and Jeremy Barnes singled in a run to give Clearwater a short lived 2-1 lead.On Deck: The two teams complete their three game series Sunday afternoon in Lakeland.Clearwater returns home Tuesday to begin a seven game homestand, facing Brevard County for three and Lakeland for four.Need to Know: With the loss the Threshers trail the North Division leading Dunedin Blue Jays by three and half games.Jarred Cosart had his brightest moment of 2011 in Corpus Christi, Texas Friday evening. The right-hander allowed only one hit over six complete innings in the Double A Texas League.
