ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Chicago Bears have shipped TE Greg Olsen to the Carolina Panthers. This move comes as a bit of a surprise to me, especially after the fact that the Carolina Panthers already have inked a deal with veteran TE Jeremy Shockey after he was released by the New Orleans Saints.
Olsen is a talented tight end, and I thought he might have a great future with the Bears, especially after logging five score with the Bears last season. And this move by the Bears leaves them without a serious threat at the tight end position heading into 2011.
The Carolina Panthers continue to surprise this off-season and continue to surround rookie QB Cam Newton with offensive weapons. I do not think these moves make Carolina a playoff contender by any means, but these moves also show finally, a commitment from ownership to their fanbase. The Panthers should be an exciting team to watch in 2011 as the young players on their team continue to grow.
