Lady Gaga Found Perfect ‘Fit’ In Cher For Duet

Two of pop’s biggest divas, Lady Gaga and Cher, are teaming up for a highly anticipated collaboration, fittingly titled “The Greatest Thing.” Late last week Cher confirmed via Twitter that the song will be out in September, but few details have been revealed about the Gaga-penned track. So when MTV News caught up with the VMA-nominated Mother Monster herself last week, we asked her to dish about the track. It turns out that “The Greatest Thing” was a song she had been holding onto for some time.”I wrote that song a long time ago, and I’ve never put it on one of my own albums for, really, no particular reason,” Gaga told us. “I always write these concept records, and it just didn’t fit in. But it’s always been, like, this big, massive, beautiful hit record and everyone always says, ‘Why don’t you put that on your album?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know, it just doesn’t fit with everything else.’ “The song was, however, a good fit for Cher’s new record and it will reportedly be the lead single off of her yet-untitled 26th studio album.”Cher heard the song and loved it and wanted to do it together,” Gaga added. “And I said, ‘F— yeah, it’s Cher!’ “Of course, this collaboration may never have happened if it were not for last year’s VMA show, where Cher handed Gaga her Video of the Year Moonman for “Bad Romance.” Lady Gaga graced the stage in her infamous meat dress, making a memorable first impression on Cher — and the rest of the world.”I don’t think she realized I was handing her meat,” Gaga recalled. So what was Cher’s response to Gaga asking her to hold her meat purse?”She was like, ‘No problem, I’ll hold your purse.’ And then she just sort of had a steak in her hand, and was like, ‘Thanks, bitch!’ ” the “Born This Way” singer joked.Gaga is gearing up to create more memorable moments at the 2011 Video Music Awards. She’ll open the big show with a performance on Sunday night. The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. See the list of nominees, revisit last year’s highlights and vote for Best New Artist by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Julianne Hough Gets ‘Footloose’ with ELLE

Julianne Hough and Kenny Wormald channel their wild Footloose alter egos in this new shot from the September 2011 issue of ELLE magazine.Styled by Joe Zee, the two stars model some of the fall’s hottest shoes and threads.“As in the original Footloose, the trademark red cowboy boots worn by Julianne’s character, Ariel, are obviously the catalyst for her entire wardrobe, from her denim minis to her white eyelet skirts and cutoff jean shorts. So, for September, our big fashion issue in which we cover all the major trends of the season, I thought we’d turn things upside down and work fall’s big messages around the shoes. Not just any shoes, either: These are the Big Five that I think every woman should have right now,” Joe writes.Julianne Hough & Kenny Wormald: ‘Footloose’ Shoot Like Just Jared Jr. on FB

Fencing plan to tackle yob behaviour at basketball courts

NEW fencing could be installed at atrouble-plagued basketball court in Coventry as early as November in abid to stop louts causing misery to residents. As reported by the Times in July, neighbours to the council-run Hillfields Young People’s Centre werecalling for it to be shut down unless it could stop youths drinkingalcohol, daubing the site with graffiti and noisily using thebasketball courts until 2am. Itwas thought that obsolete fencing from Sidney Stringer School could beinstalled at low cost to stop trouble-makers entering the site, but itwas decided the school would need it until next year – a major blow forresidents who said they were “at the end of their tether”. Buta lot of work has been undertaken since then and a planning applicationfor the installation of 8ft fencing was submitted on August 22. Anew leaflet providing advice in relation to appropriate usage of thecourt was created by a youth worker and users of the centre, anddistributed in different community languages. Youthworkers have also undertaken outreach sessions with young people in thearea, and PCSOs and local wardens have conducted a door knockingexercise to deliver ‘It’s your call’ leaflets and encourage residentsto report crime and anti social behaviour. Costings and timescales forinstalling CCTV are being obtained and there will be extra policepatrols in the area between 10pm and 2am. The improvements will be funded by£12,000 from the Community Safety Partnership, £4,100 from the existingyouth service budget, and additional funding is being sought from Whitefriars Housing for a contribution to fencing and the removal of walls, bench seating and a ‘rebound board’ to stop youngsters loitering on the courts.

Ex-Seton Hall basketball player Kelly Whitney pleads guilty to burglary

What were you smoking? You’re 6’8 inches tall, with a broad nose, close cut hair style and a acne facial problem; did you really think that you would be unrecognizable. Of course there’s the old racial stereotype that all blacks look alike, but 6’8″ guys are the exception rather than the rule, so what were you smoking? You made a rash impulsive decision, but it could have turned out a heck of a lot worse. Reality states that now that you’ve confessed to the crime, that now you must do the time; however here’s some advice for you that you might find constructive. Stay away from the knuckleheads and stop getting high. There’s almost just as much “get high” in prison as there is on the streets; leave it alone, read, read and read some more. If you can, go to educational classes and make lemonade out of the lemon that you’ve created for yourself. One mistake doesn’t mean that you should give up and finish throwing your life away. Free Fishing Day Falls on Saturday of Labor Day Weekend

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) invites Californians to kick off their Labor Day weekend celebration by fishing in our state’s spectacular waters. Saturday, Sept. 3 is the second of California’s two 2011 Free Fishing Days, when people can try their hand at fishing without having to buy a sport fishing license. All fishing regulations, such as bag and size limits, gear restrictions, report card requirements, fishing hours and stream closures remain in effect. Every angler must have an appropriate report card if they are fishing for abalone, steelhead, sturgeon or spiny lobster anywhere in the state, or salmon specifically in the Smith and Klamath-Trinity River systems.DFG offers two Free Fishing Days each year – usually in conjunction with the Fourth of July and Labor Day weekend – when it’s legal to fish without a sport fishing license. This year, the Free Fishing Days were set for the Saturdays preceding Independence Day and Labor Day (July 2 and Sept. 3) because they fall on holiday weekends, when a fishing excursion is likely to be most convenient for the public.Free Fishing Days provide a low-cost way to give fishing a try. Some DFG regions offer Fishing in the City programs where you can go fishing in major metropolitan areas. Fishing in the City and Free Fishing Day clinics are designed to educate novice anglers about fishing ethics, fish habits, effective methods for catching fish and fishing tackle. You can even learn how to clean and prepare your catch so you can enjoy it for dinner that night.Anglers should check the rules and regulations at dfg.ca.gov/regulations/ for the waters they plan to fish. Wardens will be on duty to enforce them. Sarah Palin to Attend Labor Day Tea Party Rally in New Hampshire

Sarah Palin attends the Bloomberg & Vanity Fair cocktail reception following the 2011 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, April 30, 2011 in Washington, DC.ABC News’ Michael Falcone and Shushannah Walshe report:The Tea Party Express announced Tuesday night that Sarah Palin will be speaking at their Labor Day rally in Manchester, N.H. on Monday.“We are always thrilled to have Sarah Palin join one of our rallies,” Tea Party Express chairwoman Amy Kremer said in a statement. “She is an electrifying figure in conservative politics and a hero to the tea party movement.”SarahPAC confirmed the Tea Party Express announcement of Palin’s New Hampshire appearance.Palin is heading to New Hampshire after a weekend trip to Iowa to address another Tea Party event on Sept. 3. The former Alaska governor will headline the inaugural event of the Tea Party of America in Indianola.Palin’s two-state swing along with a campaign-style video she released earlier this month highlighting her recent trip to the Iowa State Fair could be a sign she is preparing to jump into the presidential race. But, it could just as easily be a tease.News of Palin’s New Hampshire trip was first reported by Craig Robinson of the Iowa Republican.Palin’s presidential intentions have been the subject of heightened speculation, especially after former George W. Bush adviser, Karl Rove, who does not have a particularly close relationship with Palin, recently said that Palin has a schedule “that looks like that of a candidate, not a celebrity.”While speaking to reporters at the Iowa State Fair on Aug. 12, Palin indicated that she was likely to make an announcement about whether or not she would jump into the race by the end of September, but not necessarily by Labor Day.“I don’t know if within the next couple of weeks I will be ready for an announcement or not,” she said, adding that the end of the month “is still a possibility for a timetable.”Palin’s speech to the Tea Party Express event in New Hampshire is part of the group’s “Reclaiming America” bus tour that will culminate on Sept. 12 with a CNN/Tea Party Express debate in Tampa, Florida. Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann is speaking at a similar rally in Iowa on Wednesday and Mitt Romney will attend one of the group’s events in New Hampshire on Sept. 4.Palin, who has a history of upstaging other candidates, was invited, but has not said she will attend, a presidential forum in South Carolina on Labor Day.The event is being organized by the American Principles Project and will feature a panel led by Tea Party leader Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C. and Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa. Romney, Bachmann, Rick Perry and several other candidates plan to participate.Palin will not be the only Tea Party superstar in Iowa this weekend. Failed Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell will be there too.O’Donnell’s on-again, off-again appearance at the Indianola rally — the same one where Palin will also be speaking — appears to be on again as of Tuesday night.O’Donnell had initially confirmed her attendance at the Tea Party of America event on Saturday but the organizers later rescinded the invitation. On Tuesday night, O’Donnell tweeted that even after getting bounced from the event, the invitation had been re-extended and she decided to go.“In Troublemaker I talk about ‘rising above it’, and have humbly re-accepted the re-invitation to speak in Iowa on Saturday,” O’Donnell tweeted, referring to her new memoir.Charlie Gruschow, co-founder of the Tea Party of America, confirmed that O’Donnell is indeed back on the agenda and will be speaking on Saturday.

Transfer Deadline Day

Sky Bet have cut Wesley Sneijder’s odds to 11/10 to leave Inter Milan in the current transfer window after a flow of good support this morning (4/6 to stay). The Dutch international was as big as 7/2 to leave Inter before the close of the transfer window but with only hours left on Deadline Day, it looks as if United are still keen to bring the 27-year-old to Old Trafford. Whatever happens on Transfer Deadline Day, we’re in for a feast of football betting action all the way up to 11pm this evening. Play Now Another player that has been subject to a lot of interest over the last couple of months is the Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric. The Croatian has been subject to a number of failed bids from Chelsea but with Harry Redknapp insisting that Modric is going nowhere, Sky Bet are now offering 1/9 for the 25-year-old to stay at White Hart Lane. It’s 5/1 for Modric to surprise many and leave before the close of the current transfer window. Modric is not the only player that has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane with both Sunderland and QPR apparently keen to sign Peter Crouch. It’s 4/7 (from 1/2) for the England international to make the move to the Stadium of Light and 5/4 that he joins newly promoted side QPR. If money is to be believe, it looks as if QPR could be the value bet to sign the 30-year-old (cut from 7/4 into 5/4). It’s also understood that Tottenham are keen to add to their squad and with Harry Redknapp at the helm anything is possible. You have to remind yourself of the end of the last transfer window where Redknapp tried his hardest to secure the services of Charlie Adams from Blackpool. The move failed due to timings but it does show that anything could happen between now and 11pm this evening. Tottenham are 1/7 to sign Gary Cahill from Bolton and 4/7 to sign Yossi Benayoun from Chelsea. Other players that have been subject to some good support today are, Jermaine Jenas (6/4 to sign for QPR), Joe Cole (2/5 to join Lille) and Chris Samba (4/9 to sign for Arsenal).
