2011 College Football BCS Rankings – LSU Tigers Still Perfect

The latest BCS Rankings are out, and it’s no surprise that the LSU Tigers are still the top college football team in the nation. The biggest surprise of week 10 was the loss by Boise State and Stanford as both teams lost their first game of the season and dropped to ninth and tenth in the country.LSU used another strong defensive effort this week in their win over Western Kentucky and improved their record to 10-0. If the Tigers win their remaining games, they will play in the BCS Championship Game at year’s end.Oklahoma State has a firm grasp on the second spot in the rankings as the Cowboys beat Texas Tech 66-6 on Saturday. Like LSU, if the team finishes the season unbeaten, they will play in the title game, but the bigger question is what two teams will play each other if one or both teams lose down the stretch?Alabama remains in third, but Oregon moved from seventh to fourth with their upset win over Stanford Saturday night. The win keeps the Ducks slim hopes alive, but with all the upsets over the last few weeks, one never knows what teams will be one and two at the end of the regular season.Houston is the only other college football team without a loss, but the Cougars have not played against a ranked team this year, and that has hurt them in the polls and computer rankings. Houston is ranked number eleven after this past weeks contests, and even if they finish without a loss, they won’t be playing for the title this season.Every team ranked third through tenth has one loss, and if LSU or Oklahoma State falter, each of these teams still have an outside chance at playing in the BCS title game, but all these teams will need some help over the course of the season to gain the berth in the championship game.
